Frequently Asked Questions

How often and how long are therapy sessions?

Most individual therapy sessions last 50 minutes and are typically scheduled for once per week. For clients with more significant needs, I may recommend longer or more frequent sessions. Therapy sessions may also be decreased in length and/or frequency as therapy goals are mastered. Prior to beginning therapy with me, we will discuss your specific needs and decide together what will work best for you. Please contact me for a free phone consultation.

How long do psychological evaluations take? When will I get results?

Comprehensive psychological and psycho-educational evaluations usually take place across several days. I typically test in the mornings. During the first testing session, I gather background history, conduct diagnostic interviews, administer questionnaires, and describe the assessment procedures going forward. The following 2 to 3 sessions involve direct assessment of the client (e.g., IQ tests, academic achievement tests, autism and other social-emotional-behavioral measures, etc.). Each session typically lasts 2-4 hours, depending on the client’s age, test battery, and other factors. Within 4 weeks after the evaluation is completed, the client and/or caregivers or legal guardians will be offered a feedback session (typically 60-90 minutes) to review the results of testing and tailored recommendations. A comprehensive written report will also be provided to the client and/or client’s legal guardians.

I also offer briefer Telehealth evaluations that focus on autism symptoms when full psychological or psycho-educational assessments are not necessary (e.g., most adults, teens who are performing well academically, and children under 5 years old). These evaluations typically take place across 2 to 3 days via Zoom for Healthcare (HIPAA-compliant platform). A comprehensive written report and feedback session (typically 45-60 minutes) are offered within 4 weeks after testing. Please contact me to find out what kind of assessment is best for you.

How much do therapy sessions cost?

Fees vary by length of session and modality of treatment. I offer concierge services for all my clients. Limiting the number of clients I see allows me to be available for supplemental meetings or phone calls in between sessions if needed, consult with other professionals involved in your or your family member’s care, increase the frequency or duration of sessions as needed, and address other issues that may come up. Most of these services are offered at no additional cost to you. To discuss fees for your needs, please contact me. Payments are due at the time of services. I accept cash, check, and credit card.

How much do psychological evaluations cost?

The cost of evaluations varies, depending on the reason for testing, the client’s age, how much time is needed for testing, and other factors. I tailor each evaluation to the client’s specific needs and will not charge for unnecessary tests. I will provide you with a flat fee estimate For more information about assessments, please contact me directly to discuss your specific needs.

Do you take insurance?

I do not accept insurance and, thus, would be considered an out-of-network provider by insurance companies. Depending on the plan and deductible, reimbursement from your insurance company for psychotherapy or psychological evaluation may be available. Please contact your insurance company directly to obtain a detailed explanation of your benefits, including required pre-authorizations and procedures for submitting claims. Upon request, I can provide you with a detailed statement that you can submit directly to your insurance company.

What is your cancellation policy?

If you need to cancel or reschedule your appointment, please provide at least 24 hours’ notice. No shows and cancellations or reschedules with less than 24 hours’ notice will be subject to the full fee of the session. This is necessary because a time commitment is made to you and is held exclusively for you. If you are late for a session, you may lose some of that session time.
